Vision Questions Answered
April 16, 2025
Have you noticed your squinting to read your phone – even with your glasses or contacts on? When was the last time you visited your eye doctor? If you have vision insurance, take advantage of your eye exam copay and make an appointment.
How does vision insurance work?
When you have vision insurance, you pay a premium in exchange for coverage on various eye care services. The plan is associated with a group of eye care providers that are “in-network.”
What does vision insurance cover?
Vision insurance pays for services like routine eye exams, plus a large portion of your costs for glasses and contacts. You will also receive a discount for corrective surgery (LASIK), and lens options (tints, scratch resistant coating, etc).
Am I required to stay in network?
You are not required to stay in network; however, if you do not use a network provider you will pay more for services. For example, if you go out-of-network for an office visit, glasses and contacts, the maximum reimbursement you will receive is $150 per year. Our provider network is through Horizon Davis Vision, which offers many national network chains for your convenience.
Do I need a vision ID card to be seen by a provider?
No, with an in-network provider you only need to provide your name and date of birth.
How often can I get glasses and contacts?
Vision insurance covers a number of glasses and contact lenses over a set period of time. Our vision insurance covers glasses or contact lenses once a year.
I have medical insurance, but no vision insurance. Do I still have coverage for eye examinations?
You do! If you are enrolled in Artcraft’s Aetna medical plan, you have coverage to get your eyes examined once every 24-months. You also have discounts on designer frames, contact lenses, LASIK and more through Aetna’s discount program. For details, click here.
